Gym Teacher, Coach, Accused of Sex With Student Heads to Court

An area gym teacher and cheerleader coach accused of having sex with a student on and off school property is due in court today.

Nicole Kurowski, 27, is accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old male student at Tulpehocken High School in Bernville, Pa. from October 2012 to August 2013, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police arrested the Berks County coach and physical education teacher after they were asked to investigate a tip accusing Kurowksi, 27, of engaging in a physical and sexual relationship with a student.

Investigators say they recovered thousands of text messages and dozens of pictures exchanged between the two. Police say Kurowski and the teen had daily conversations both during and after school. They also say the text messages revealed a romantic and sexual relationship between the two.

According to police, the two met on several occasions at the school as well as the Southgate Apartment complex, the Reading Expo Center and other locations in Berks County.

She was charged last month and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

Last week at a hearing where she wasn't present, some of the charges were changed to be four counts in total including intercourse with a school student, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of a minor and child endangerment, according to court records.

Kurowski was suspended without pay. She is due in court Monday morning for a formal arraignment.
