Tacony Academy Charter School was placed on lockdown this morning after a phone threat came into the school.
The school is located at 6238 Rising Sun Avenue in the Rising Sun section of Philadelphia.
In a letter to parents, Tacony Academy C.E.O Sterling Garris further explained what led up to the lockdown.
He says the phone threat came into the school just as students were arriving for the day. School officials immediately called police and all students who were inside were secured and those who hadn't yet entered the building were told to go home.
Police inspected the entire building to make sure it was secure.
"Although it may seem extreme to some people, these are different times. We want to be absolutely sure for their safety," said Garris.
