Violence Prompts Possible Changes to Pa. Music Fest

Officials in an eastern Pennsylvania city plan to consider changes to a popular annual music festival following several violent incidents at or near this year's events.

Bethlehem Mayor Bob Donchez told The (Easton) Express-Times that officials will meet with Musikfest organizer ArtsQuest in the next few days. Council members are to meet next month to discuss how public safety was handled.

Donchez said several changes are being discussed, including shortening festival hours on Main Street and installing brighter lights, but he wants to discuss the ideas with merchants first.

Police said a dispute between two groups led to a double shooting a few blocks from the festival Aug. 5. An assault involving brass knuckles was also reported during the festival along with another shooting.
