Argument Causes Man to Barricade Himself in Center City

A possible neighborly dispute led to barricade situation in Center City Philadelphia overnight.

Philadelphia Police shut down several blocks near City Hall as they tried to bring a peaceful end to the situation at 1222 Arch Street.

Police said a dispute with neighbors led to the man barricading himself inside an apartment with a gun.

"It started as a verbal altercation between neighbors," said police Capt. Patrick Kelly. "One neighbor made some threatening words and then ran back into the apartment."

Police spoke with the unidentified man’s girlfriend as they worked to quickly resolve the situation.

Luckily the armed man surrendered without incident less than an hour later.

No one was hurt.

Police didn't immediately announce charges.

All blocked off roads were reopened well before the morning rush.
