Caught on Video: Pregnant Woman Punched, Has Food & Purse Stolen

A pregnant woman was hospitalized after being clocked in the back of the head by a man over her purse and a bag of food.

The 41-year-old victim, who is seven months pregnant, was walking down the 100 block of Manton Street in the Pennsport section of Philadelphia around 9:15 p.m. on December 22 when the robbery took place, police said.

Surveillance video shows the suspect run up behind the woman, take a wide swing and punch her in the head. The woman falls to the ground next to an SUV. Seconds later, the man runs away carrying the woman's purse and her bag of groceries.

"What kind of a coward hits a woman like that?" asked the victim's friend Bernadette McCloskey.

The woman was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital with bruising around her right eye and broken bones on the side of her face. She was later released after undergoing an observation.

"She's hanging in there, shes a tough little cookie," McCloskey said. "But of course it takes your sense of security away."

The suspect was last seen getting into a gray SUV, possibly a 2004-2009 Dodge Durango, and head south along Front Street toward Reed. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket, gray sweatpants and Nike sneakers, police said.
