A popular youtube video of a 2-year-old boy hearing his mother’s voice for the first time has local roots.

The video, which was uploaded in October of last year but only went viral about a month ago, shows a 2-year-old boy named Cooper. The boy was diagnosed as “profoundly deaf” according to the Huffington Post but received two cochlear implants which allowed him to regain most of his hearing.

The video shows the boy gasping with delight after hearing his mother say “hi Cooper!” The heartwarming moment was shown on several national programs, including Anderson 360.

Nancy D’Argenio, a PR Specialist at Nemours, tells NBC10 Cooper and his family live in Swedesboro, New Jersey. She also says the surgery and follow-up therapy the boy underwent took place at the Nemours/Alfred l. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.

On June 27, the family released two videos with updates on Cooper’s condition.
