Cat Lady Pulls Gun on Cops, SPCA

The SPCA recovered more 75 cats from a home in Upper Darby, police say.

Police and the SPCA got a big surprise this afternoon while attempting to remove cats from a row home in Upper Darby.

Denise Merget, 57, pulled an unloaded gun on SPCA workers and police when officials paid a visit to her Leighton Terrace home to remove more than 75 felines, according to Police Superintendant Michael Chitwood.

“The SPCA was getting suited up to go in the house and she ran inside and was screaming, ‘Nobody’s going to take my cats,” Chitwood told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Cops instructed Merget to drop the gun and proceeded to make an arrest.

Merget is facing several charges including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and making terroristic threats.

The cats are being cared for by Delaware County SPCA.
