Investigators say a man left behind a crucial piece of evidence after a carjacking and kidnapping in Philadelphia.
The series of events began about 12:45 a.m. Friday when police spotted a Mustang driving erratically in the 1700 block of S. 17th Street in South Philadelphia.
Officers signaled the driver to pull over. The driver initially obliged, but as officers were approaching the car, the suspect drove away.
A short time later, the suspect crashed the Mustang into several parked cars in the 1900 block of Camac Street.
The suspect got out of the Mustang and ran to a nearby car that had four people inside. The male driver was pulled out of the car by the suspect and a male passenger got out to help the driver.
The suspect then got into the car, which still had two female passengers in the backseat, and sped away.
The suspect eventually bailed from the car at 5th and Shunk Streets and ran away.
The females were not injured.
“There’s going to be additional charges of kidnapping because after carjacking the vehicle, he took off with two females in the backseat,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Investigators say they know who they are searching for because the suspect left behind a key piece of evidence.
“They saw an inmate identification card in plain view, and that inmate identification card picture did match the description of the person who the 17th District office initially attempted to stop,” Small explained.
The manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.
