Car Slams Into Street Vendor, 2 Other Victims Near West Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival

A car slammed into two women near the Juneteenth Festival in West Philadelphia Saturday evening, trapping one victim under the vehicle and prompting witnesses to rush to her aid, Philadelphia police said.

Several bystanders helped lift the car, which was driven by an 86-year-old woman. They wrestled a 29-year-old woman from underneath. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

A 51-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman were also hit. They were both listed in stable condition Sunday.

Police initially said two women had been injured.

"We thank God for the victory," local resident Tracy Reid said, grateful that the accident was not fatal. "This is a strong community ... It's pure gold."

The driver, Virginia Jackson, told NBC10 her car malfunctioned. Police said she may have accidentally stepped on her gas pedal instead of brake.

"Something was broke under there," Jackson said. "I just couldn't believe it."
