Suspect Throws ‘Incendiary Device' at Car Causing it to Catch Fire: Police

Officials are investigating a car fire in Northeast Philadelphia that they believe was sparked after someone threw a device at the vehicle.

Police responded to the 7300 block of Shisler Street around 6:30 p.m. Monday for reports of a car fire and explosion. When they arrived they found a 2007 Lexus parked in a driveway that was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and the Bomb Squad and Fire Marshal arrived at the scene as well. The investigators then found what they believed to be an “incendiary device” in the front passenger seat area of the car. They believe the device was what caused the fire.

Police also found surveillance video from nearby businesses that they say shows someone throwing a device into the vehicle and causing it to catch fire. The person then flees the scene. Police say the video is grainy and the image of the suspect isn’t clear.

Police are currently interviewing the owner of the vehicle. No one was injured during the incident.
