Car Crashes on O.C. Boardwalk, Lands on Beach

Police say a couple's search for a lost cell phone on the beach led to a boardwalk crash.

A car crashed on the Boardwalk in Ocean City, N.J. and ended up on the beach on Tuesday night, according to Ocean City police.

Investigators say Christian Winzcuk, 21, of Philadelphia and Hyeyeon Ju, 46, of Jenkintown, were walking on the beach when they lost a cell phone.

Winzcuk and Ju then drove a car onto the 2200 block of the boardwalk to use the headlights to assist them in their search for the cell phone, said police.

When Winzcuk attempted to drive the car off the boardwalk, he lost control and went through the guardrail onto the beach, according to police.

Ju was in the passenger seat and she and Winzcuk were treated at a hospital and then taken into police custody.

Winzcuk is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated, hindering apprehension and reckless driving.

Ju is charged with allowing an intoxicated person to drive, hindering apprehension and having an open container in a vehicle.

Approximately 25 feet of railing and boardwalk decking was damaged during the accident, said police.
