Car Crashes, Flips Near Scene of Deadly Street Racing Crash in Northeast Philadelphia

A motorist crashed and overturned a car in Northeast Philadelphia overnight near the scene where a street-racing crash claimed the lives of three people over the summer.

Police said that just after 1:30 a.m., the driver lost control, struck a pole and flipped near Red Lion Road and Sandmeyer Lane, in the Bustleton neighborhood. The driver was trapped in the car briefly, and was rescued by first responders before being taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The crash occurred feet from the site of a deadly July 29 crash that claimed the lives of 17-year-old Sabrina Rhoads, 17-year-old Yvette Gonzalez and 20-year-old Felip Hernandez. Police have said that crash was the result of street racing, and two young men -- Christopher Bloomfield and Ryan Farrell -- are facing charges in connection.
