Car Chase on I-95

Philadelphia man arrested.

Police chased down a Philadelphia man who sent them on a car chase down Interstate 95 Sunday afternoon.

Lower Makefield Police had set up a traffic stop along Rt. 322 for the investigation of an earlier retail theft in Newtown Township. Just before 2 p.m., they attempted to stop a man traveling east along 322 toward I-95. The man, 20-year-old Tarail A. Davis, of Philadelphia, took off when police tried to stop him, according to a press release.

Davis then did his best to evade the police, they say. He got onto the northbound ramp while traveling south, turned his car back onto 322 and entered the northbound ramp, only to turn back around once more onto 322, according to officials. They also claim that Davis slammed into a squad car, smashing the front of it.

Finally, Davis got off of 322 and began going south on I-95 toward Philadelphia, police say. He made it several miles—all the while pursued by police and striking several other cars along the way.

According to a Patch report, Davis struck Jamell Creque, of Trenton, while driving with his family in his Acura Infinity SUV. The article claims that Creque and his wife sustained mild injuries, while his two young sons were unharmed.

Davis eventually hit a guard wire and lost control, according to the press release. Creque tells Patch he thinks it happened after Davis slammed into his SUV hard enough to deploy its airbags:

"After he hit me on the passenger’s side, he flipped on the median," Creque told Patch.

After flipping, police say Davis escaped through a broken window and tried to run, but didn’t make it very far. He was quickly apprehended by two Lower Makefield officers.

Davis was arrested for aggravated assault, DUI, hit-and-run, and other related charges.

He is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
