Cameras To Be Installed in Market-Frankford Line

SEPTA will be installing security cameras into each train on the Market-Frankford Line. Finally. Thank you for joining the 21st Century, SEPTA.
After years of sexual predators, robbers and vandals getting away with undocumented crimes on the El, more than $3.3 million will be spent on the installation of 10 cameras in each of the 225 cars on the elevated trains.
The 2,225 cameras go in late this year and early next year. SEPTA officials and police say they hope the closed-circuit cameras will reduce crime and help catch criminals.
This move comes not long after a mother was sexually assaulted on the Market-Frankford Line while holding her baby.
The Broad Street Line already has security cameras that have proven useful. In July police located the teenager who was groping women in the subway through video footage. Camera surveillance also helped police find the man who senselessly attacked a stranger with a hammer last September.
