According to police, officers were investigating a nearby crash where two pedestrians were struck. During the crash, the vehicle's license plate fell off.

Police used that plate to track the driver to a home. As they tried to pull him over the suspect took off -- trying to mow down officers, according to investigators.

Officers opened fire on the car -- striking the suspect inside.

The suspect was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in stable condition.

Police planned to charge the man once he is released.
