Camden Teen Tries to Ditch Loaded Sawed-Off Shotgun: Police

Police arrested a Camden teen after he attempting to discard a loaded shotgun while fleeing from officers, said Camden County Police.

A patrol officer observed the 15-year-old boy "acting suspiciously" near cars parked at the intersection of Broadway and Viola Street around 1 a.m. on Aug. 28, said police.

The teen fled on foot when the officer approached him, ditching a sawed-off Mossberg International 702 Plinkster shotgun in the process, said investigators. Officers arrested the boy after recovering the loaded weapon, said police.

Deputy Chief Joseph Williams said responding officers defused a "potentially dangerous situation" and removed a "powerful deadly weapon from the hands of a juvenile."

The boy was charged with weapons possession offenses.
