Police Shoot, Kill Alleged Gunman in Camden

A man was shot and killed by police after he allegedly opened fire at officers in Camden, New Jersey Tuesday night. 

Police say they received a call reporting a domestic disturbance on the 3200 block of Rutledge Walk shortly after 7 p.m. When they arrived at the scene they were met by an armed man who fired at least one shot at the officers, according to investigators. Officials say the officers returned fire, striking the man.

The man, who police say was in his 20s, was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police are not releasing his identity until they notify his next of kin.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating.
