Uncle, Other Man Get Decades in Prison for 4-Year-Old's Death

2 NJ men sentenced for killing 4-year-old boy who was caught in the crossfire

Two South Jersey men face decades-long prison sentences for killing a 4-year-old boy who got caught in the crossfire during a shootout on a Camden street four years ago.

Martin Pierce was sentenced Wednesday morning to 42 years for first-degree manslaughter, attempted murder and other charges when he's sentenced Wednesday. He could have received up to 60 years behind bars for the shootout that claimed the life of his 4-year-old nephew Brandon Thompson.

Later in the day Donald Lindsey was sentenced to 33 years in prison. He faced up to 40 years after being found guilty of second-degree manslaughter, attempted murder and other charges. Despite his bullet killing Thompson, Lindsey faced a lesser manslaughter charge because he was convicted of a passion-provocation murder.

Prosecutors say the pair started shooting at each other on a hot afternoon in August 2008. Pierce's nephew ran toward his mother and into the crossfire.

A bullet hit his head and killed the little boy. Both men were convicted in March.

Relatives of the boy spoke at the sentencing.
