NJ Transit Bus Crashes Into Porch of SJ Home

NJ Transit spokesman Dan Stessel says the bus was carrying nine passengers from Atlantic City to Lakewood.

Emergency crews are on the scene of an accident that involved a commuter bus crashing into a South Jersey home early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the NJ Transit bus was heading north when it struck a pole on Route 9 near Brook Street. The bus didn't come to a stop until it crashed into the porch of a home on Main Street in Barnegat.

No one was in the house at the time of the crash.

NJ Transit spokesman Dan Stessel says the bus was carrying nine passengers from Atlantic City to Lakewood when the accident occured.

Police say that two passengers complained of leg and knee pain.

Another passenger jumped from an emergency exit before police and rescue crews arrives.

Police say the driver is not at fault and that uneven road surface may be to blame for the accident.

Route 9 is closed in both directions between Gunning River Road and West Bay Avenue. Authorities say the road will remain closed for the next few hours.
