Burglars Target Hamilton Township Homes: Cops

Three homes in the east side of the township were targeted between Thursday 9 p.m. and Friday 1 a.m., according to investigators.

Police are investigating a series of attempted break-ins in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County. Three homes in the east side of the township were targeted between Thursday 9 p.m. and Friday 1 a.m., according to investigators. Police say the homes were located in the Village at Harding’s Run, Stonecrest and Victoria Point developments. Police also say people were home during each incident.

“Both of my kids are very scared and they still are,” said attempted burglary victim Mark Sciore.

Sciore says his children were watching television with their grandmother Thursday night when someone tried to force their way in.

“I think my daughter turned on the light when she heard the noise and it must have spooked him and they got away,” said Sciore.

“They just broke the window and he heard the noise and he called the police right away,” said Lilian Dillon, the neighbor of one of the victims.

“This is an unusual circumstance specifically because it did happen during the night time, which is when people are home,” said Lieutenant Anthony Alcott of the Hamilton Township Police Department. “We do believe there’s a strong possibility the same person committed all three acts.”

So far no one has been arrested. Police tell NBC10 they’re increasing patrols in the area and urging residents to step up their security.

“They need to keep their doors locked, windows locked and to report anything that might seem suspicious to them,’ said Lieutenant Alcott.

“Now everybody’s on guard and everybody’s worried about their house,” said Sciore. “These are tough times for everybody.”

NBC10 will continue to speak with police and report new developments as we receive them.
