5 Main Line Homes Burglarized in 5 Hours

Police are searching for a group of burglars who stole from five homes and one vehicle within a five hour span in Radnor Township Sunday morning.

Investigators say the burglars broke into two homes and one unlocked vehicle on the 500 block of Saint David’s Avenue, two homes on the 300 block of Belrose Lane, and one home on the 400 block of Glenmary Road between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday.

All the homes that were burglarized had either unlocked doors or open windows with easily removable screens, according to police. Once inside the burglars stole several items, including purses, cell phones, laptops, iPads, money and liquor.

During all the burglaries, families were inside sleeping.

“We didn’t hear anything and the same thing with our neighbors who have three dogs,” said Byrne McLaughlin, one of the victims. “They didn’t hear anything.”

All of the targeted homes are within walking distance of each other as well as SEPTA’s Paoli-Thorndale line.

“It’s very calculated,” said Radnor Township Police Lieutenant Andy Block. “They’re walking around and casing the residents. They see something of value, go in and get it and leave.”

Police also say the thieves tried to break into a sixth home in the neighborhood but were unable to.

“I just can’t believe it,” said Ann Kanof who moved into the targeted home with her husband a month ago. “I don’t understand it at all. Are they expecting to get away with it? Are they wanting to get caught?”

As police continue to investigate, they’re warning residents to always keep their homes and vehicles secure.

“Always lock your doors,” Lieutenant Block said. “Lock your windows and keep them down or pinned. If you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately.”

Police believe the thieves are targeting other townships and are increasing patrols in the area. The Township is also offering a $5,000 reward for arrests in the case.
