Bold Burglar Strikes Bucks Co. Homes: Cops

An alleged brazen burglar targeted homes in at least three different Bucks County townships, police said Wednesday.

He broke into more than a half-dozen high-priced homes in Upper Makefield, Lower Makefield and Newtown, getting away with jewelry, electronics and cash, police said.

He has gotten away with thousands of dollars in property, police said.

Sue Drotar of Upper Makefield came face-to-face with the thief, she said.

She caught him scoping out her home shortly after 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.

“I got up and went to the front door -- there’s nobody there. Looked out the back door and the guy's looking in at me,” she said.

He then told Drotar that he was sorry and looking for New Hope.

The alleged crook is described as being in his mid-40s, crew cut, 5-foot-11, about 170 pounds and took off in a older model dark blue vehicle, police said.

He broke-in by either by kicking-in a door or breaking through a window at the homes he did enter, according to cops.

He tripped the alarm system at a Newtown home but he continued to ransack the home. Luckily for homeowner Edwin Hill, the burglar got away empty-handed.

“We're glad of that,” Hill said. “At the same time it leaves us feeling vulnerable at this location in terms of what might happen next. Is he's going to return? What's his real motive?”

The burglar’s exact motive might not be known but what is know is that police hope to get him off the street ASAP.

Anyone with info should call one of the local police departments involved.
