Burglar Targets 12 Businesses in 2 Weeks

Police are on the hunt for a man who they say has robbed a dozen North Philadelphia businesses in the span of two weeks. Police say the suspect smashed the front of the businesses and either took money from the register or the entire register drawer.

Police say the suspect committed the following burglaries at the following businesses:

October 4: The suspect broke into the window of the Cricket Phone Store on the 6500 block of Frankford Avenue around 2:30 a.m., according to police. The man allegedly took several unknown items before fleeing in a white Pontiac with tinted windows

October 11: The suspect allegedly cut the telephone lines and opened the electric meter at the Verree Mini Market on the 7900 block of Verree Road. Police say the burglar then broke the glass on the front door and stole $670 as well as cigarettes from inside the store before fleeing the scene.

October 13: Police say the suspect broke into Solly Pizza on the 8100 block of Bustleton Avenue around midnight. The suspect allegedly broke out the glass of the front door and stole $25 in cash from the register. That same night, police say the suspect stole the entire register from Big Daddy Pizza on the 1900 block of Welsh Road. He then allegedly stole $150 from DT Nails & Spa on the 15500 block of Bustleton Avenue around 12:50 a.m.

“It’s so expensive for the door and they only took like ten dollars from the register,” said Jessica Cortez, an employee at Solly Pizza. “It doesn’t make any sense at all.”

October 15: Police say the suspect stole an unknown amount of money from Bob’s Hair Design on the 7900 block of Dungan Road.  Around 4 a.m., the suspect then allegedly stole from Verree Express Pizza on the 7900 block of Verree Road.

“It’s not much to look at,” said Frank Bonilla, the owner of Verree Express. “A little cup with some change is gone and some change from the register is gone. “But there is big damage to the front door.”

October 16-October 17: Police say the suspect stole the cash register containing $50 from the Dog Grooming Zone on the 7700 block of Castor Avenue sometime between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

October 18: Police say the suspect stole the cash register from Extra Video Store on the 9400 block of State Road sometime between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Police say the suspect then broke into the Al Sham Restaurant on the 6700 block of Bustleton Avenue around 5 a.m. and stole an unknown amount of cash.

October 18-October 19: Police say the suspect stole $100 from No. 1 China Restaurants on the 3300 block of Grant Avenue between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.

October 20: Police say the suspect broke into the Radio Shack Store on the 6400 block of Sackett Street around 11:30 p.m.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30’s, standing 6-feet, wearing blue pants, blue sweat shirt, baseball cap and tan boots.
