Burglar Hurt After Jumping Off Roof: Cops

With police on the scene, the man jumped to the ground where he was taken into custody

Lansdale Police responded to a home on the 800 block of Derstine Avenue on June 8 after getting a call of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, the homeowner told them the man was still inside his house.

Police first saw the suspect looking out a first floor window, and then say he made his way to a second floor window, where he climbed out on the roof and jumped to the ground.

Police took him into custody. He's been identified as Bennie Hall, 25, of the 700 block of Weikel Road in Towamencin Township.

The jump caused serious injuries to his legs, police say, and he was taken to Abington Hospital for treatment.

Police say Hall had a knife on him, that he used to cut a screen window to get inside the home. Officers also found a duffel bag inside the house that was filled with the homeowner's personal property.

Hall will face charges of burglary, criminal trespass, loitering, prowling at night, possessing an instrument of crime, and theft by unlawful taking.

Hall remains hospitalized as of Tuesday, and has not been arraigned yet.
