Found Bullets Put Lehigh Valley High School on Lockdown

A Lehigh Valley high school remained on lockdown late Monday morning after bullets were found in a bathroom inside the school, officials said.

Emmaus High School, on Macungie Avenue at West Berger Street in Lehigh County, was locked down just after 8 a.m., according to officials from the East Penn School District. The lockdown came after two .22-caliber bullets were found in a boys' bathroom at the high school, a district official said.

Authorities later said that police and administrators determined the bullets had been placed in the bathroom by someone who "intended to disrupt the school day by causing an early dismissal." No weapons or other bullets were found, and the school was deemed safe, officials said in a news release at 10:30 a.m.

As a precaution, the school will remain on "exterior threat" lockdown until further notice, officials said, but classes resumed as usual.

There was no word on charges for the person suspected of bringing in the bullets.
