Brush Fire Burns in NJ

A brush fire burned in South Jersey this afternoon blocking traffic.

The fire burned about five acres of land off S Pemberton Road (Route 38) near U.S. Route 206 in Lumberton, Burlington County.

Fire crews blocked one direction of Route 38 due to smoke, according to county dispatchers.

Dispatchers said that firefighters were on the scene Saturday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. putting out hot spots.

The state Department of Environmental Protection said brush fires like this are common -- there are anywhere from 7,000 to 14,000 a year in the Garden State.
