Missing Kayaker Reverend at Local Church

Kayakers identified as brothers

The swollen Brandywine Creek proved too dangerous for two kayakers Tuesday, who have now been identified as brothers, according to officials.

Christopher Miller, 28, of Yonkers, N.Y. and Reverend Chad Miller, 34, Minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Del., went out on the water after Tuesday's violent storms.

The men were last seen going over a dam near the Brandywine Picnic Park in West Chester, Pa. around 1:20 p.m., police said. Both went underwater and when they didn't come up right away, park staff called rescuers.

"Immediately law enforcement responded, water rescue responded…we were able to locate one individual," said West Chester Police Chief Scott Bohn.

They located Christopher. He was rushed to Chester County Hospital, but did not survive. Divers resumed their search Wednesday morning for Chad and do not expect to find him alive.

Westminster Presbyterian Church (1502 West 13th Street, Wilmington, Del.) will hold a memorial service Sunday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. to honor his life and ministry work, according to a church administrator.
