Broad Street Runners Battle Record Heat

New Yorker wins Broad Street Run

Thousands of runners braved a scorching hot day for the 31st annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

30,000 runners took part in the 10-mile event. 28-year-old Alena Reta from New York won the men’s race in just over 48 minutes.

Heat and humidity took their toll on some runners. Organizers provided over a million cups of water and sprinkles for the participants.

Some of the runners needed medical attention.

The Broad Street Run is held each year the first Sunday of May.
