Brian Williams, James Gandolfini, Patrick Ewing Among Inductees for NJ Hall of Fame

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, "Sopranos" actor James Gandolfini and NBA legend Patrick Ewing are among the inductees of the 2014 New Jersey Hall of Fame.

The NJ Hall of Fame honors New Jersey residents who have made “invaluable contributions to society and the world beyond.” Past inductees include Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Jack Nicholson and Queen Latifah.

Williams, 55, was born in Elmira, New York but lived in Middletown, New Jersey during his teenage years. He began his career in broadcasting in 1981 and joined NBC News in 1993, anchoring the national Weekend Nightly News. In 2004 he succeeded Tom Brokaw as the anchor of NBC Nightly News. He is also the managing editor of the program.

James Gandolfini, who died in 2013 at the age of 51, was an Emmy and Golden Globe-award winning actor best known for his role as Tony Soprano in the iconic HBO television series "The Sopranos." Gandolfini was born in Westwood, New Jersey and grew up in Park Ridge, New Jersey where he attended high school.

Patrick Ewing, 52, is a retired Hall of Fame basketball player who spent most of his NBA career with the New York Knicks. He is an 11-time NBA All-star, the Knicks’ all-time leading scorer and was selected as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. He also won an NCAA championship with the Georgetown Hoyas in 1984 and was named the College National Player of the Year in 1985. Ewing was born in Kingston, Jamaica but is currently a resident of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
