It seems like Chase Utley is a role model to more than just children in the area. Chase’s work ethic may have rubbed off on a fellow Phil – Brett Myers.
Myers was supposed to be down for the season after surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip. It's a procedure similar to the one Chase went through during the off-season.
And just like Chase, Myers is well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation, CSNPhilly.com reported. He progressed so rapidly, that he'll throw a bullpen session on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park.
“He could be back this year. I’m a little surprised by it, but I thought he’d have a chance,” said manager Charlie Manuel.
But don’t get your hopes up of seeing Myers start for the Phils anytime soon. He's not cleared medically to throw anything more than a bullpen session. And even if he does come back before the end of the season, he's not likely to start.
“He’s still got a ways to go. I don't think the right thing would be to count on him to contribute in a major way,” said assistant general manager Scott Proefrock.
On the other hand, people made the same sort of predictions about Chase in the off-season. Look how that turned out.
