Child's Decomposing Body Found in Home, Mom Failed to Claim Remains

A coroner says he's cremated the body of a 9-year-old boy because his mother didn't claim the remains after his decomposing body was found in their central Pennsylvania home.

Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick says he's awaiting additional test results before issuing a report on how Jarrod Tutko Jr. died, though he's said dehydration and starvation appear to be factors.

PennLive reports Hetrick cremated the boy's body last week.

Police found the body in the family's Harrisburg home on Aug. 1.

His father, 38-year-old Jarrod Tutko, was charged with child endangerment, concealing the death of a child and abuse of a corpse.

Kimberly Tutko has said her husband was the primary caretaker of their mentally disabled son and waited days to tell her of his death.

The couple's home phone was disconnected Tuesday.
