Boy, 5, Found Safe After Suspects Steal Car With Him Inside

The boy was eventually found safe at 63rd Street and Haverford Avenue while the car was found unoccupied at 500 North Gross Street.

A young boy is safe after two suspects stole a car while he was inside in West Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.

A woman told police she left her 2011 Chevy Impala running while her 5-year-old son was sleeping in the backseat as she ran into a Chinese restaurant on 60th Street and Lansdowne Avenue at 3:25 p.m.

While she was inside, two men entered her vehicle and drove westbound on Lansdowne Avenue.

The boy was eventually found safe at 63rd Street and Haverford Avenue while the car was found unoccupied at 500 North Gross Street.

“It was really horrendous. Scary,” Cheryl McDonald, the boy’s grandmother, said. “To find out that somebody kidnapped him. Took his car with him in it.”

McDonald told NBC10 she hugged and kissed her grandson when she saw him.
Police did not release a detailed description of the two suspects, only saying that one of them was wearing a blue, hooded coat.
