A charter school on South Broad Street was evacuated early Wednesday after a male student brought what looked to be a live hand grenade to school, authorities say.

A Philadelphia Police bomb squad determined the grenade was fake at about 9:20 a.m.

The Philadelphia Performance Arts Charter School at 2600 S. Broad Street was cleared of all staff and students after the male student left the fake hand grenade on the sidewalk in front of the school, police say.

No one was injured, and the Philadelphia Police bomb squad is still at the scene.

The male student is now in custody, police say.
