Deadly Car Crash on the Boulevard

A crash turned deadly along a busy area roadway this morning.

A car slammed into a tree around 4:30 a.m. along the outer lanes of the northbound Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 1) just after Southampton Road in the far Northeast section of Philadelphia.

The unidentified male driver was trapped in the car and died at the scene. No one else was hurt.

The northbound outer lanes of the Boulevard were closed as police investigated the incident. By 6:30 a.m. the road reopened as police waited for a tow truck to remove the car from the side of the road.

It wasn't clear exactly what caused the driver to lose control of his sedan and drive off the road. Investigators on the scene however did tell NBC10's Matt DeLucia that speed appeared to be a factor.
