Building Owner Finds Body Wrapped in Plastic in Spring Garden Apartment

Grisly discovery made in apartment along Mount Vernon Street in Philadelphia's Spring Garden neighborhood

A property owner found a man’s body wrapped in a plastic tarp inside a Philadelphia apartment under renovation Wednesday morning.

The grisly discovery was made around 9:40 a.m. in a bedroom of a home that has been divided into apartments along the 1900 block of Mount Vernon Street in the city’s Spring Garden neighborhood, Philadelphia police said.

Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

"We don't know his manner of death other than it's clearly under suspicious circumstances," Philadelphia Police Homicide Capt. Jack Ryan said. "Clearly he didn't do it himself."

The apartment is occupied despite being under renovation. Some drug paraphernalia was visible but it was unclear if drugs played a role in the death, Ryan said.

The investigation continued Wednesday.
