Body Found in Pennsylvania River Identified as Missing Woman

Authorities say a body found by kayakers in an eastern Pennsylvania river over the weekend has been identified as that of a woman last reported to have been seen more than a month ago.

Officials said the body of 39-year-old Tammy Joy Mayfield of Gap in Lancaster County was found Saturday in the Schuylkill River in Cumru Township. The cause of death is not yet known.

Investigators said she had walked out of Reading Hospital without following discharge procedures March 12 after being treated for dehydration.

She had been taken to the hospital from a South Heidelberg Township convenience store after complaining of dizziness, weakness and fatigue. Authorities said she told ambulance personnel that she had been walking since about 20 hours earlier and didn't know where she was.
