Body Found in Woods Believed to Be Missing NJ Woman

Police in a southern New Jersey town believe they have found the body of a 39-year-old woman who disappeared after entering a wooded area near her home last week.

But the body found Tuesday afternoon in Washington Township has not yet been identified as Renee Sheppard, who was reported missing by her family last Thursday morning.

The body was found near a creek at the bottom of a ravine around 4 p.m., but authorities tell the South Jersey Times that foul play is not suspected. And it doesn't appear that Sheppard fell accidentally. Police also say they found Sheppard's cell phone around 12:30 p.m. nearby.

Sheppard was last seen entering a 500-acre wooded area in Gloucester County's Washington Township. Authorities have said their search efforts were hampered by the area's difficult terrain and thick brush.
