Boater Finds Body Floating in Delaware River in South Philadelphia

A boater made a grisly discovery in the Delaware River along South Philadelphia Saturday, and police are now investigating.

Police said a boater on a joyride in the river about 7 p.m. Saturday spotted a body floating in the water and called 9-1-1. The Police Marine Unit responded and pulled the body from the water.

Police said the body was so badly decomposed that they couldn't immediately tell the person's race or sex. They took the body to the Medical Examiner's Office for further investigation.

Authorities continue to look into what happened to the person and how the body wound up in the river.
