A little girl's birthday party is one she won't soon forget after a backyard deck collapsed sending six party-goers to the hospital Tuesday night in Carbon County.
Police tell WBRE that there were about 11 people on the deck of a Penn Forest Township rental property when it collapsed.
"The people were trapped under the collapsed deck and the fire department had to rescue them," Carbon County EMA Director Mark Nalesnik told WBRE.
Six people were sent to area hospitals following the collapse. Four of those victims were transported by medical helicopter. Several others suffered bumps and bruises, according to police.
"A little girl was hobbling around," said neighbor Judy Bonislawski. "The other little girl had a bad cut on her head."
It's unknown at this time why the deck collapsed, but officials say there's no indication that too many people were on it.
Neighbors tell WBRE that the owners of the property just had it inspected and were told everything was fine.
