Thieves Steal NJ Woman's Family Wedding Rings

A Berlin, New Jersey woman is asking for the public’s help after thieves stole her family wedding rings from her home.

Police say the theft occurred between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. back on August 19 at Margaret Gibson’s home on Chestnut Avenue.

Gibson told NBC10 the thief or thieves climbed through her second floor window and stole a large amount of jewelry, including her wedding ring, her mother’s wedding ring, her grandmother’s engagement ring and her father’s wedding band.

“Most of it I inherited when my mom passed away in 2005,” Gibson said. “There were hundreds of items. They left me with nothing. Some things were only sterling silver so I’m afraid they were just trashed. Many of my own personal jewelry was given to me by my mom. It’s just heartbreaking.”

Gibson also said the thieves stole two class rings.

“A class ring from the 70s that is a gold Eastern High School class ring with a ruby in the middle,” she said. “There was also a 2005 Overbrook High School class ring with a sapphire in the middle. This had a track and field cleat on it and a soccer ball on the ring.”

Gibson also said some of the stolen jewelry has the letter “M” on it or the name “Margaret” while other items had the letter “P” or the name “Peggy.”

“A necklace in particular was gold and said, ‘Peggy,’” Gibson said.

Berlin Borough Police are currently investigating the theft and are offering a reward for a return of the jewelry or information leading to an arrest. If you have any information on the incident, please contact Detective Sergeant Michael Scheer at 856-357-4229.
