Bear Wanders Into Backyard in Bucks County

A Bucks County man received an uninvited guest on Monday after a bear wandered into his backyard.

Frank Policare told NBC10 he had just returned home from walking his dog around 5:45 p.m. on Aquetong Road in Solebury Township when he saw the animal in his backyard.

"As I was walking up the steps, I looked out of my back windows and I saw this big black thing out there," Policare said.

Policare walked out of his door and began to record the bear with his cell phone as he stood about 30-feet away.

"It was just unbelievable," he said. "The bear would just stand up and eat out of the bird feeder and tilt it sideways. Then it would just sit down on the ground "Indian style" and just relax. Then it would get up again and get something to eat."

Policare said the bear, which he believes was about 6-feet-tall, remained in his backyard for 15 to 20 minutes. As the bear started to go up a hill, Policare says his dog, who he had locked in an upstairs bedroom, noticed the animal from the window.

"She saw it and started barking," Policare said. "Then the bear kind of hustled along and moved away."

Policare contacted Solebury Township Police. They are currently investigating.
