Barnegat Brush Fire 100% Contained

Authorities say the fire scorched 20 acres of woods across the street from a large housing complex.

Tuesday’s brush fire in Barnegat Township is now 100% contained, according to police.

The blaze began Tuesday morning near North Main Street and Barnegat Boulevard. Authorities say the fire scorched 20 acres of woods across the street from a large housing complex. Fortunately no homes were damaged and there were no reported injuries.

“We sent a lot of aviation and equipment here and we were able to knock the fire down in relatively quick terms,” said Acting Fire Warden Michael Drake of the NJ Forest Fire Service.

Tuesday’s incident follows a 1,000 acre fire in Tabernacle Township and Woodland Township in Burlington County on Monday. Investigators believe that fire was intentionally set. They don’t have an official cause for the Barnegat Township blaze however.

Barnegat Boulevard and Barnegat Branch Rail Trail are now reopened. Police say some fire apparatus and personnel will remain in the area. They advise all motorists in the area to use caution.
