Employee Grabbed, Shots Fired During TD Bank Robbery

Unknown sum of money taken, employees suffer minor injuries

Authorities in Montgomery County are investigating an early-morning bank robbery in Willow Grove.

It happened at the TD Bank branch at 2900 West Moreland Road at around 6:45 a.m. NBC10's Claudia Rivero reported that two employees were arriving for their shift when a man attempted to enter with them. After the employees managed to close and lock the door in front of the man's face, police say the man shot out the glass front door.

The man then grabbed one of the employees and dragged him to the rear of the building while the other employee escaped out a rear door.  At some point, another shot was fired, though the employees were not hit. After threatening the employee he'd grabbed, the robber fled without any money, according to police.  The employees were treated for minor injuries.

The suspect is described as a black man dressed in all black clothing, including a black zip-front hooded sweatshirt. He wore a black mask which covered most of his face and was armed with a black handgun. Police say the suspect fled the scene in a black midsize SUV with chrome wheels and a Pennsylvania license plate with the letters, E, R and C. There was also a second person in the car.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching the above description in the area between 6:15 and 7 a.m. to contact Abington Township Police at (267) 536-1100 or the FBI at (215) 418-4000.
