Pennsylvania's top prosecutor says she strongly supports an action by state House leaders to ban most types of cash gifts to lawmakers and legislative staff.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane released a statement Wednesday that said stronger ethics laws for the state's elected officials are long overdue and that public trust is eroded by cash gifts.

Kane also says she supports efforts by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, along with The Associated Press and others, to unseal criminal records in a case involving the confidential informant who worked with her office's investigation of cash gifts to state lawmakers.

The records at issue are filed in county court in Harrisburg.

Leaders of both parties in the House imposed the cash gift ban on Wednesday and indicated further action was possible.
