Defense witnesses have testified that a suburban Philadelphia woman accused of having killed an infant for whom she was baby-sitting two decades ago was very upset on the day of the child's death.
Montgomery County prosecutors allege that 38-year-old Melissa Haskell of Upper Merion Township killed 5-month-old Ryan Baurley in August 1992 while baby-sitting at a King of Prussia home.
The Bucks County Courier Times says Haskell's mother testified Monday that her daughter was hysterical when she called and said the infant wasn't breathing. A longtime friend said Haskell was distraught and looked like she had lost a family member.
Prosecution witnesses earlier testified that Haskell showed little emotion after the child's death.
Officials say testimony in the case could wrap up Tuesday; Haskell isn't expected to testify.
