Autopsies Scheduled for South Jersey Hospital President and Wife

Authorities probing a house fire that killed the president of a major southern New Jersey hospital and his wife say autopsies on the couple are scheduled for Tuesday.

Investigators have released few details about the fire, which broke out early Sunday at the Montgomery Township home of 72-year-old John Sheridan and his 69-year-old wife, Joyce. It was contained to an upstairs bedroom, where the unresponsive couple was found.

John Sheridan, the president and CEO of Camden-based Cooper University Health Car, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later.

Somerset County prosecutors say the investigation is ongoing, but further details won't be disclosed until they receive the preliminary findings from the autopsies conducted by the state medical examiner's office.
