2 Charged With Leaving Autistic Boy on Bus for 7 Hours

Two bus company employees face a child endangerment charge for allegedly leaving an autistic 6-year-old boy on a bus for more than seven hours.

Sixty-seven-year-old Luis Gonzalez of Middlesex and 53-year-old Maria Vasquez of Edison were charged Thursday.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says Gonzalez was driving and Vasquez was a bus aide on October 22 when the child was picked up to be taken to a school in Edison.

The child allegedly wasn't escorted off the bus, but remained on board when it returned to a bus yard in Bridgewater.

Another driver discovered the child and the boy was returned to his school at about 4 p.m.

It wasn't immediately known if either defendant had an attorney. Both surrendered to police and were released pending an initial court hearing.
