Attackers Punch Teen Girl Near University of Delaware's Campus: Police

A man punched a teenage girl in the face Tuesday evening in a robbery attempt near the University of Delaware's campus in Newark, police said.

The 19-year-old UDel student was walking on Scholar Drive, near East Delaware Avenue, around 11:15 p.m. when two men approached her, authorities said.

One of the men hit her in the face, knocking her to the ground, and then the pair began going through her property, officials said.

The victim began screaming, which caused the suspects to run from the scene. Nothing was taken from the teen.

Officers with the University of Delaware Police Department and the Newark Police Department, including K-9 units, responded to the area, but they were unable to locate the assailants.

The teen suffered some minor abrasions.

One suspect is described as 5-feet 4-inches tall and wearing a white or light-colored long-sleeve T-shirt, while the second suspect, who is described as 5-feet 10-inches tall and heavy set, was wearing a gray crewneck sweatshirt with writing on the front.

Anyone with information about the suspects or the incident is urged to contact Det. Morgan Fountain at 302-366-7100, extension 133.
