Atlantic City Takeover: Former Appointee's Law Firm to Bill Up to $400 an Hour

Republican Gov. Chris Christie's administration has agreed to pay a former U.S. senator's law firm up to $400 an hour to oversee New Jersey's takeover of Atlantic City.

The agreement with former Republican Sen. Jeffrey Chiesa became available Thursday from the state attorney general's office.

It shows hourly rates for members of Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi will be $400 for senior partners; $350 for partners; $240 for associates; and $90 for paralegals. It's not known how much the state has been billed so far.

The Department of Community Affairs announced last month that Chiesa, a former state attorney general and counsel to Christie, would oversee the takeover.

Chiesa's appointment came after the state took control of Atlantic City's assets and major decision-making. The struggling gambling resort is half a billion dollars in debt. [[238427591, C]]
