Atlantic City Drug Gang Leader Gets Life in Prison

One of the leaders of a violent Atlantic City street gang has been sentenced to life in prison.

Thirty-five-year-old Mykal Derry received the sentence Thursday. Derry and his brother, Malik, were convicted in August 2015 of drug conspiracy and weapons charges.

Mykal Derry was a leader of the street gang known as "Dirty Block," ''Crime Fam," ''3.6.6.12," or "3.6." He directed the gang's drug distribution activities, while Malik acted as an enforcer. Authorities say ring members distributed heroin in and around several public housing complexes in Atlantic City.

Prosecutors say the brothers planned and carried out the fatal shooting of a rival drug dealer in Atlantic City in 2013.

Malik Derry still awaits sentencing in the case.
